Researcher Orientation Workshop

The Moi University Africa Multiple Research Centre held a Researcher Orientation Workshop on 20th and 21st May 2026. The capacity-building initiative was designed to empower Moi University scholars working within the Africa Multiple: Reconfiguring African Studies Cluster of Excellence and to strengthen the professional competencies required for effective research management and administration.

During the workshop, participants received practical training in financial management to support the efficient utilization of research funds and the successful implementation of research projects. The training emphasized the importance of accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of allocated resources, in line with the requirements of both Moi University and Africa Multiple. Key areas covered included budgeting, financial reporting, expenditure tracking, and audit compliance.

The orientation also provided guidance on procurement procedures and regulatory compliance. Participants gained a clearer understanding of procurement planning, supplier selection, documentation requirements, and institutional procurement policies. The sessions equipped researchers with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate procurement processes effectively while adhering to applicable laws and organizational guidelines.

In addition, the workshop highlighted the importance of ethics and integrity in research. Participants were introduced to fundamental principles and best practices in research ethics, promoting accountability, responsible conduct, and public trust in research outcomes.

Overall, the workshop enhanced participants’ capacity in research management, strengthened their understanding of institutional and donor compliance requirements, and promoted responsible research practices among the participating scholars.
